Innovation IN

Economic Development

Today’s world is in a state of rapid change.  The speed and scope of this change have increased exponentially, largely as a result of the Internet.

The Internet creates a platform for social and economic exchange that transcends the limits of time and space.  People and institutions today interact globally in real time, 24/7.  A vast global market and transformative innovations have emerged as a result.

Regions in the U.S. and around the world can use these global platforms to transcend their local markets and to become global centers of commerce, learning, and creativity.  From a global perspective, the United States is made up of “citistates” or “megacommunities” that represent globally significant clusters of high value products, services, design, knowledge, infrastructure, innovative capacity, cooperative governance, and efficient policies.

The impact of global competition on communities in Indiana and elsewhere makes traditional corporate, government, and local community responses ineffective.  Single communities are too small to compete globally, and states are too large.  Regions are the right size to assemble a critical mass of assets and rapid response to succeed. Through Innovation Indiana, Sagamore Institute is helping regions around Indiana develop strategies set to global standards to assure the future prosperity and vitality of Indiana communities.
